Center Talk: Marginality Hitting the Radio Waves
Mondays 5pm PST (streams live!)
I basically try to fill the hour with intellectual and progressive discussion on marginal issues with an effort to "bring them to the center" hence the title. I normally interview someone who is educated in or informed in a certain topic or issue. Some past episodes include: Keeping Walmart Out of India (and other mega-corporations), Institutional racism (based on Loïc Wacquant's essay on the prison system: From Slavery to Mass Incarceration), a discussion on the questionable uses of Mechanical Turk (a sub-site of Amazon.com that involves crowd-sourcing and some peculiar practices), and my first show was on the relationship between health and class (based on the series "Unnatural Causes," I interviewed an Urban Planner on the state of affairs of affordable housing and parks & rec in Orange County).
I have an upcoming show with an amazing lady who taught high school for 3 years on Riker's Island, one of the biggest penal colonies in the States (even the world) set in NYC.
Nothing but the Rain: Defenestration with Monique
Mondays 10pm-Midnight PST (streams live!)
What can I say? I labeled my show "eclectic" so I can basically play anything I want! It's a wonderful mixture of jazz, indie, trip-hop, soulful tunes, and other sexy music. Some bands I've been playing lately: The Happy Hollows, Lucky Dragons, Panda Bear, Malachai, tUnE-yArDs, Sallie Ford & The Noise Outside, Can, etc.
Again, all the information necessary is stated above. I hope someone on here gets the chance to catch me riding the radio waves. Also remember, the times are all PACIFIC STANDARD TIME.
Since I've graduated (by way of formality since they won't give me my degree until I finish a couple science classes), I'm sticking around these parts to work on the talk show primarily. So tune in some time!
Totalitarian regimes viewed intellectual integrity as subversive and imposed ideological or political orthodoxy upon all intellectual pursuits and professions. Under the Bush administration there have been repeated instances of governmental or corporate attempts to distort or suppress unwelcome expert reports and scientific findings. As President Bush testified, “One of the hardest parts of my job is to connect Iraq with the war on terror.” A common threat connects false claims about WMD’s with denials of global warming. The one insists that there was evidence; the other denies that there is evidence. Both are denials of actuality; both are irrational decisions of huge consequence; and both are aided by the lack of intellectual and public integrity among our scandal-ridden corporate and governmental leadership.
